    Mary Vollaro passed away peacefully late Wednesday night while sleeping at her home in Pleasantville. She had been battling heart disease for some time. She was born on June 6, 1907 and was anticipating her 100th birthday this year. She is survived by her older sister Philomena; two Sons: Joseph of Pleasantville, and John and wife Alice of Adirondack, NY; four grandchildren: Daniel, Jennifer, Sharon and Thomas; and seven great grandchildren.

    Mary was born in Hornell New York. She was the youngest of 5 children born to Angelo & Adeline De Flories, who immigrated to the United States from the Naples area of Italy in the early 1900's. Mary's family moved to Brooklyn, NY when she was 13 years old. As a young woman, she was employed by Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan, as a designer of women’s hats.

    Mary and John Vollaro were married on April 19, 1936. After John’s passing, Mary moved to Pleasantville in 1967 with her son. She was an active member of Holy innocents church, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the Cancer Sewing Group; and she was a long time member of the Pleasantville Senior Citizen’s group. She will long be remembered for her ever-present radiant smile and loving manner.

    Mary’s family will receive visitors at the Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville on Tuesday, May 1, from 2pm to 4pm, and 7pm to 9pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, May 2, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven cemetery, Hawthorne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to: Village of Pleasantville Senior Center, 1A Clinton St, Pleasantville, NY 10570.
