The
Adirondack Years

In 1997, several large stars came into alignment providing another
great opportunity for us.
With thirty
years of service on the job, I
was entitled to a full pension, health benefits, a 401K plan, and a
chance to retire with a years pay. Our house was recently paid off as
were the last of our college expenses. The time was right and with some
trepidation we jumped at the opportunity to make significant changes in
our lifestyle. Alice and I terminated our employment obligations and
began the new adventure of retirement together.
Two years earlier we purchased a summer cottage on
Schroon Lake and
with retirement looming, we began consider our options. We finally
decided on a major expansion of the summer cottage financed by the sale
of our house in Clinton, and a permanent residence in the town of
Adirondack on Schroon Lake. This all became a reality in June of 2001
when we formally moved into our house at 73 Pine Lane in Adirondack.
There were many trade offs involved with this move
that are revealed
later in this section but the most difficult was the sale of our home
in Clinton and the separation from the community where we had spent
most of our lives. On the other hand it was the realization of a
childhood dream for me and each time we take a walk by the lake we
marvel at the beauty of it all and how glad we are to be here.
