A unique assignment in the Fall of 1994 started me on a path away from traditional architecture. Instead of being given a "brick-and-mortar" design project, we were asked to conduct a user study of a text-based, on-line community called a Multi User Domain (MUD). We chose BayMOO, an object-oriented MUD hosted at San Francisco State University. Acting as virtual anthropologists, my partner and created a Logical Adjacency Map (LAM), or floor plan, of the MUD:
