About John R. Vollaro I was born in Brooklyn NY on May 13, 1941. My parents, John J. and Mary L. Vollaro were both first generation Italian Americans and we are shown with some of our relatives in the Family Tree. I was raised in Brooklyn and spent the first 20 years of my life living with my parents and brother (Joseph F. Vollaro) in a house on Coney Island Avenue. The address was 1094 Coney Island Avenue but the house is no longer there. Many of my experiences while growing up in Brooklyn are highlighted in the section on "The Brooklyn Years". I joined the Navy in February 1962. During my four year enlistment, I married my wife Alice and we had our first two children Daniel and Jennifer. I was also involved in two collisions at sea, and other adventures at sea. These adventures and others are highlighted in the section on "The Navy Years". After my discharge from the Navy in June 1966, I went to work for Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill NJ. Our family setteled in western NJ and we baught a small house located a 6 Busher Place in Clinton NJ. This was our home for 34 years during which we had two more children (Sharon and Thomas), and shared many happy adventures together. Many of these experiences are highlighted in the section on "The Clinton Years". In 1932 my grandparents Andrew and Luisa Vollaro purchased two parcels of property on a small lake in the Adirondack mountains of New York. The Schroon Lake area has been a favorate summer vacation destination for 5 generations. This area in the Adirondack State Park so endeared itself to our family that we purchased a vacation home of our own in 1995. In 2000, this became our perminant residence. Many of our adventures at Schroon Lake are highlighted in the "Schroon Lake" section. One of my favorate hobbies is sailing. Through the years I have enjoyed a number of sailing adventures in the Virgin Islands and elsewhere. These are highlighted in the section on "Sailing Adventures". We have also traveled in Europe and these adventures are in the "Travel" section. I retired in 1997 but keep busy mainly with church related volunteer projects. These and other activities that I have been involved in or am currently working on are found in the "Retirement Years" section. I hope to add more new sections as time goes on.
